Mental health treatment covers a wide array of therapeutic endeavors that can reduce or alleviate symptoms of mental illness. These can include psychotherapy, psychoeducation, self-help and support groups, interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, open-dialogue, mindfulness, assertive community treatment, dual diagnosis and integrated treatment. While some of these treatments have been around for decades (i.e. psychotherapy, interpersonal therapy) others are relatively new (i.e. DBT, open-dialogue).
